Along with the Turtle Beach 420X that I recently obtained and reviewed for Xbox One, I also got a couple of audio upgrades for my PC. As mentioned last time around, my poor desktop was armed only with $20 RadioShack speakers. The quality seemed passable, until I heard for myself that it wasn’t. As a result, a couple of new acquisitions have gotten me at least to the point of respectability in the area of PC gaming audio.
First, those cheap ass speakers had to go. They’ve recently been replaced with the Logitech Z323 speaker system. Price-wise this is a somewhat low end option retailing at $69.99 and usually on sale for slightly less. The thing is, other than one rogue CNET review that scored them incredibly low, this system has largely stellar reviews just about everywhere. Also, many seem to be from audiophiles that live and breath this stuff. Even they felt it was a great recommendation, especially for the money.
That might sound like me going out of my way to defend this choice, but it’s really not. It’s more of a disclaimer that these days you can get a very nice set of speakers for a relatively low price. The Z323 is a prime example. Like I said in the Turtle Beach review, I’m no audio technician. I just want something that sounds good and feels like I got something solid and legit. If that sounds like you, the Z323 is a good and very affordable option.
The sound on these speakers is definitely a cut above any budget or generic speakers you might come across. That’s not saying much given they’re a little more expensive, but the point I’m making is that you’ll hear a huge difference. Again, I’m not equipped to break down tech specs and what not and I don’t desire to be. On the other hand that also means I don’t have a lot to say other than I’m happy with the Z323. I’m hearing nuance in the audio of each game I play that I just wasn’t hearing before. I wouldn’t let the price fool you on these. For only a double-digit price you’ll feel like you’ve entered into the world of legitimate sound systems for your PC gaming needs. It’s a great set for those of us that just want to have peace of mind that we’re getting the most out of our games from an audio standpoint. The Z323 delivers for about as little as you can possibly spend for a “real” set of speakers.
